Grandson of Mário Soares identified after feud between Benfica and Sporting fans – Portugal

The PSP made a report to the court on the afternoon of May 3, with the identification of several suspects of ambushing members of the Sporting Torcida Verde cheerleaders.

Among the people identified, all allegedly belonging to Benfica’s unrecognized cheerleaders, Diabos Vermelhos, will be 17-year-old Jonas Soares. According to the online edition of the weekly ‘Novo’, which this Saturday put forward with the news, the grandson of the former President of the Republic, Mário Soares, and son of João Soares, has already been constituted accused.

The crime will be that of offenses to the physical integrity. Police sources told the CM that Jonas Soares appears, for now, only on a list of people identified by the PSP on the day of the attack. In what appears to have been an ambush, a group of hooded men in two cars and a motorcycle attacked and tried to run over Leon fans. The PSP intervened in time to apprehend one of the aggressors’ vehicles, and to identify a group of these.

Contacted by CM, João Soares says that his son “is a peaceful person, who has never been involved in feuds or used weapons in his life”.
