Government Will Revoke Bulk Cooking Oil Subsidy May 31, 2022

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The government will remove subsidies cooking oil bulk starting May 31, 2022. The government will also implement a domestic market obligation (DMO) and domestic price obligation (DPO) policy instead.

This was conveyed by the Director General of Agro Industry of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Putu Juli Ardika in a working meeting of Commission VII DPR, Tuesday (24/5/2022).

“The mechanism returns to the DMO, and the determination of this subsidized bulk cooking oil is on May 31, 2022,” Putu said in the meeting.

Putu said the policy was decided after the government issued two new regulations regarding the follow-up to the opening of the export of cooking oil and its derivative raw materials.

The two regulations in question are Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) Number 30 of 2022 concerning Provisions for Exports of Crude Palm Oil (CPO), Refined, Bleached and Deodorized (RBD) Palm Oil, RBD Palm Olein, and Used Cooking Oil (UCO). This rule was published on May 23, 2022.

The second rule is Regulation of the Minister of Trade Number 33 of 2022 concerning Governance Cooking oil Focus on Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) and Domestic Price Obligation (DPO) System Policies. These rules will be published soon and will start on May 31.

“We are just waiting to be signed by the Minister of Industry. Yesterday we submitted the concept for the third amendment regarding the determination of the program for providing bulk cooking oil in the context of funding or determining subsidized bulk cooking oil,” he explained.

Putu conveyed this during his presentation regarding the Policy and Regulations for the Provision of Bulk Cooking Oil.

On April 28, 2022, it was stated that the Minister of Trade Regulation No. 22 of 2022 was issued regarding the Temporary Ban on Exports of CPO, RBD Palm Oil, RBD Palm Olein and Used Cooking Oil.

Then, May 19, 2022, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) announced the Opening of Exports of CPO and cooking oil with the consideration that sufficient supply for domestic needs has been met with a price trend approaching the Highest Retail Price (HET).
