Government Seeks to Accelerate Domestic Production of PCR Test Kits

HARIANRIAU.CO – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government is trying to accelerate the production of domestic rapid equipment and PCR tests.

It was conveyed that the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and Bio Farma specifically received this task.

“BPPT and Bio Farma are welcome to compile a list of what is needed and import what products we limit,” said Luhut.

Furthermore, he asked that domestic production capacity be prioritized to be absorbed first. If the domestic production is insufficient, then imports will be carried out.

On this occasion, Luhut also asked the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang, to encourage domestic industries to also enter the pharmaceutical sector.

Meanwhile, Agus revealed, currently the production capacity of Bio Farma’s PCR test kits has reached 1.5 million per month and can still be increased to 3.5 million per month. Of particular concern is the reagent stock.

“I ask Mr. Honesti (Director of Bio Farma Honesti Basyir, Ed) for this reagent for domestic production,” said Agus.

Described, reagents are compounds needed to extract the specimen in the checking process. The reagent contains a number of chemical compounds to detect SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19 disease.

Head of BPPT Hammam Riza said, BPPT has been able to increase the production of rapid tests to more than 2 million devices per month. With the assumption that the projected need is 6 million per month with an estimated 200 tests per day by 30 days.
