According to the Danish press, six of the people who helped save his life are also invited to Wembley. One of them, Peder Ersgaard, acknowledged feeling like “a child on the eve of Santa Claus” as the final approaches.

Another beautiful story is that of Sam Astley, a 24-year-old Briton who preferred to donate his stem cells rather than attend the semifinal against Denmark, giving away his tickets to friends. A competition sponsor, Vivo, has invited him to the final to thank him for his “selfless donation that will save lives”.
