Government announces tougher restrictions on education and sports – Society and Politics – News

Officials have decided that for 1st to 6th grade students, if the educational institution decides to organize the study process in person, from November 30, per student will have to provide at least three square meters of classroom area. If necessary, one class can be divided into several groups.

Experts explain that there is a sharp increase in the incidence of Covid-19 in children in the age group of ten to 12 years, which is comparable to the trends in the incidence of adults, and outbreaks are still observed in educational institutions with a large number of students involved. Therefore, it can be concluded that the risks of Covid-19 prevalence remain high in educational institutions.

In order to reduce the prevalence of Covid-19 in educational institutions, it is necessary to establish an obligation to provide more space per learner, to ensure that both the teacher and the children can keep a distance from each other during the educational process and to avoid overcrowding.

In addition, epidemiological data suggest that the prevalence of Covid-19 among schoolchildren is most often due to the infection of children by the educator. Therefore, in order to reduce the risk of infection from the teacher to children, the obligation for teachers to use mouth and nose covers during the educational process from November 30 has been set. On the other hand, in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 among educators, I gathered between the educational process, it is determined that educators use mouth and nose covers in the educational institution also outside the teaching process.

At the same time, it is stipulated that in adult education, as well as in higher education and vocational training, practical classes that cannot be carried out remotely may take place in a group of no more than ten people, subject to other precautions, including a distance of two meters. This means that, for example, first aid training, practical training for operational staff and the like can take place in person.

The Ministry of Health reminds that ten is the maximum number of people who can gather in private, playing sports or doing other activities.

Stricter requirements have also been set for sports clubs, where indoor sports will still only be allowed individually or one-on-one with a coach or several people if they live in the same household. Not only will a distance of two meters be required, but one person will have to devote at least 15 square meters to the area of the premises and the occupancy of the premises will not exceed 20% of the maximum number of people allowed in the infrastructure of the premises.

It is also stipulated that entertainment services can be provided remotely. For example, a representative of the entertainment industry will be able to connect remotely and provide entertainment to a private event that brings together up to ten people from no more than two households.

LETA has already reported that in parallel with these decisions, it has been decided to introduce stricter restrictive measures this week in Daugavpils, Baldone, Krāslava, Salacgrīva, Aknīste, Varakļāni, Mārupe, Mālpils, Smiltene, Garkalne, Limbaži and Salaspils districts due to the spread of Covid-19.

For example, on November 27, in these municipalities, in addition to the already established precautionary measures at the national level, any kind of full-time educational process is stopped, except for the acquisition of the pre-school education program and studies in grades 1-4.
