The Göttingen Regional Court has sentenced a 53-year-old to life imprisonment for the murder of two women. The man was found guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend and her work colleague on the street and injuring two helpers in September 2019.

On September 26, the defendant checked his ex-girlfriend at her workplace, a pharmacy in the Grone district of Göttingen. He knew when she was going to break for lunch. When the 44-year-old came out, he sprayed her with one flammable liquid and set it on fire. The woman tried to escape.
Escape across southern Lower Saxony
Witnesses tried to put out the burning woman and stop the attacker. But he stabbed his ex-girlfriend more than 20 times. He also attacked a colleague who was hurrying to help. She died shortly after in the hospital.

After the fact the then 52-year-old fled across southern Lower Saxony. He was recognized by the railway staff on a regional train and locked in a compartment. But the man smashed a window with the emergency hammer, jumped out of the window at Elze train station near Hildesheim and escaped. One and a half days after the crime, the police arrested him in downtown Göttingen.
