– Gophers Shut Out by Duluth in Men’s Hockey Loss

The No.12 University ​of‌ MinnesotaGophers men’s hockey team suffered a 3-0 shutout loss to No. 18 Minnesota Duluth Friday night at 3M Arena at‌ Mariucci, marking their⁤ first scoreless game ⁢since January 7, 2023, at st. ‌cloud State – a streak of ‍104 consecutive games with at least one goal. It ⁤was also the Gophers’ first ⁢home shutout‌ since March 6,⁤ 2020, against Notre Dame.

Daniel Shlaine⁤ and⁤ Zam Plante scored for UMD 2:44 apart in the first period, and‌ Grayden Siepmann added a goal early in the third.Adam Gajan‍ recorded 17 saves for the Bulldogs, who outshot the Gophers 24-17.Luca Di Pasquo stopped 21 shots for Minnesota, which fell to 2-4-1 ​on the‌ season.

“We ​played a really good first four minutes, but the next 56⁢ were not very good ⁤for us,” gophers coach Bob Motzko told⁣ reporters. “We ⁤couldn’t score ⁤a goal and⁣ get the effort to make it more exciting for the fans and get this thing going.”

The teams will meet again Saturday night.

In a separate contest, ​the⁤ No. 3 Gophers women’s hockey team defeated No. 4 Minnesota Duluth 4-0 on ⁣Friday, fueled by two second-period goals from Ava Lindsey. Lindsey, who entered the game with ‍12 assists⁢ – a division I lead – and one goal, ⁤helped the Gophers (8-1, 4-1 WCHA) extend their⁣ unbeaten streak ⁤against the Bulldogs (6-3, 2-3) to 14 games. ‍Minnesota is 13-0-1‌ against duluth as the end of the 2021-22 season.

“She got her first one [goal] last weekend and ⁤now they’re starting⁢ to come,” Gophers coach Brad Frost said. “She continues to play the right way and I’m happy to see her get rewarded.”
