“Imagine knowing before you leave if your destination is wheelchair accessible.” This sentence, taken froma blog article from Google published on Thursday, introduces the new functionality launched on the Android and iOS applications of Google Maps.
Concretely, a wheelchair icon now indicates the entrances accessible to people with reduced mobility. We will know in particular if a place has appropriate seats, toilets or parking spaces.
To use the new functionality, simply go to the settings and activate “Accessible places” in “Accessibility”.
Google invites all of its users to report this type of information from their smartphones. The function has so far been launched in the United States, Australia, Japan and the United Kingdom, but should soon be available in Europe, ensures the specialized website PhonAndroid.
