Goodbye to Chavo del 8: the reason why “Chespirito”, the iconic TV show, stopped broadcasting worldwide

El Chavo del 8 is one of the emblematic characters of Mexican television.

The renowned characters of El Chavo, La Chilindrina, Kiko and Professor Jirafales, as well as Chapulín Colorado and Doctor Chapatín stopped broadcasting this weekend on the different channels where they were still broadcast in about 20 countries.

And it happened against the will of the family of its creator, Roberto Gómez Bolaños.

This was announced this weekend through Twitter Roberto Gómez Fernández, son of Gómez Bolaños, better known as Chespirito and author behind all these iconic television characters:

According to various local media, It is a dispute between Televisa, owner of the rights to the program, and the family of Gómez Bolaños, who owns the commercial exploitation rights of the characters..

Until now the position of Televisa in this regard is unknown, however the programs stopped broadcasting this weekend.

The program Chespirito It began airing in 1970 and for years featured characters that became emblematic of Mexican and Latin American popular culture, such as El Chavo del 8 and its vicinity, El Chapulín Colorado or El Chompiras.

The last original show aired in 1995.. However, it was still broadcasting in about 20 countries around the world.

Following the statement of Gómez Fernández, Florinda Meza, the widow of Chespirito -who died in 2014- and gave life to the character of Doña Florinda in El Chavo del 8, expressed his rejection of the decision:
