Goodbye. Mitsubishi could finally launch a new model in Europe next year

At the turn of July and August, the Japanese carmaker announced that it had stopped the development of other models for Europe. This meant that from next year, the brand should survive in Europe only with a small Space Star car, L200 pick-up and stocks of already registered crossovers ASX, Eclipse Cross and Outlander. But now it seems that the company will partially reconsider its decision.

The reason for such a decision was that the Japanese wanted, in line with the plans of the entire alliance Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi, to focus more on markets where they are making greater profits, especially in Southeast Asia.

In addition, in Europe, the brand would have to contend with strict CO2 limits and stricter emission standards. The decision was made to freeze the development of the European version of the new Outlander (although the current generation is one of the best-selling plug-in hybrids in Europe), not to modify the age-old ASX SUV and to upgrade the Eclipse Cross crossover for the old continent. All three models are the bestsellers of the Japanese brand.

But now it looks like he will adjust the decision at headquarters. German website Autohaus.de quotes a video message from the local head of the representation, Kolja Rebstock, which appeared on the dealer portal. It talks about the introduction of a plug-in hybrid version of Eclipsu Cross. According to the web Automotive News Europe Negotiations are also underway to launch this model in France.

The plug-in hybrid is one of the upcoming innovations for the modernization of the Eclipse Cross model, which the carmaker plans to launch next year. The decision to get this version logical in this light, the hybrids in the drawer have recently sold very well thanks to state subsidies in Europe.

Mitsubishi’s top management of the hybrid Eclipsu Cross is still fogging. Europe-wide representation speaks of “pure speculation”, with headquarters in Japan limited itself to declaring that the car will be available in selected markets. More details are not currently known to the Czech importer either. “So far, what we informed about earlier applies, ie that Mitsubishi will not introduce new models in Europe,” said Marek Vodička, a spokesman for the agency.
