Alternative to King’s Day in times of social distancing: Housing day

Due to the coronavirus, the ‘normal’ King’s Day cannot take place, which is why the Royal Association of Orange Societies (KBOV) presented the alternative program on Wednesday. April 27 will be renamed Residential Day this year and will start at 9:45 AM when bells will ring across the country.

On that day, a digital cloth market will be organized and artists and musicians will perform for the elderly. The day closes at 4pm with a home toast, with people across the country simultaneously raising their glasses on the king’s 53rd birthday.

Rare warthogs born in Zoo Animal Kingdom

Good news from Dierenrijk in Mierlo: the zoo announced on Wednesday that two very rare Visaya warthogs were born on April 7. They are the first Visaya warthogs born in Europe this year.

The Visaya warthog is critically endangered. In the wild, the animals are only found in the Philippines, where only two hundred specimens live. 158 of the small warthog species live in European zoos, including the two youngest specimens of the Animal Kingdom.

However, strict conditions have been imposed on the reopening: for example, there must be at least 2 meters between the students’ tables and the toys at nurseries are cleaned several times a day.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte praised the students’ work: “An unprecedented achievement,” he wrote on Twitter. “Our universities of technology demonstrate their innovative strength once again, also in tackling the corona virus.”
