Giant coral reef discovered in Australia

Australian scientists have discovered a giant coral reef off the Great Barrier Reef. The scientists found the reef during a 12-month expedition, it was announced Wednesday.

They mapped the seabed of the northern Great Barrier Reef with 3D images, for which an underwater robot (photo) was used. The discovered freestanding reef, which the scientists compare to the blade of a knife, is more than 500 meters high. In comparison, the Eiffel Tower is 324 meters high.

Europe buys 100 million in rapid tests

The European Commission buys 100 million euros in so-called rapid tests to detect the corona virus. The import of mouth masks and other medical supplies from outside the European Union will also be exempted from VAT and import duties for longer, says EC chairman Ursula von der Leyen.

Historical Blue Tram returns to South Holland
