The clubs in the Eredivisie had good news on Friday in the corona crisis. FOX Sports has decided to transfer the last quarter of the television money, even if it is not yet clear whether the competition will be played.
“We hope to give the clubs important financial support in this way, pending how the situation and the measures will develop for the period after April 28,” said a spokesperson for FOX Sports to NU.nl.
The amount, in total about 20 million euros, is a boost for the Eredivisie clubs. Many clubs are struggling financially now that there is no football for a long time. Television money is an important part of the income.
The top clubs are paid a higher amount than the smaller Eredivisie clubs, which are estimated to earn about half a million euros.
The clubs in the Kitchen Champion Division have not yet received any money on Friday. The last payment term for the second level of the Netherlands is only in May.
The KNVB is still following UEFA and plans to resume professional football after June 19, provided the situation allows. All the mayors involved announced earlier on Friday that they did not like this.
