Legendary American boxer Marvin Hagler, better known by his nickname The Incredible, has died at the age of 66. For his entire career in the middleweight division, he has barely lost, and between 1980 and 1987 he was the undisputed world champion, during which time he defended his title twelve times.
His reign in the category is the third longest in its history, and it also holds the record for most knockout victories of any champion in the same category. For 67 matches in his career he has 62 wins, of which 52 are by knockout, his losses are three and draw – two.
The cause of his death is not stated, as his wife only reports that he died at their family home in New Hampshire.
His career began in 1973 and ended with a loss to Sugar Ray Leonard in 1987. Hagler is also known for officially adding his nickname to his name because at one point commentators didn’t mention him enough. So he was officially called not just Marvin Hagler, but Marvel Marvin Hagler, or in translation – The Incredible Marvin Hagler.
