Corona virus tests for all participants in advance, daily health updates, hygiene measures, mandatory masking indoors, keep a distance of two meters, no spectators: the measures that the European Tour of Golfers made for the restart in Austria and the following six tournaments Britain’s orders are strict. The Austrian Open was nevertheless a success.
“It was a special but great week at the Diamond Country Club,” said tournament director Mikael Eriksson, who was sent on tour after the APA competition in Atzenbrugg. It is a shame that you had to play without fans for the first time, but necessary because of the pandemic.
In Lower Austria, the stricter regulations applicable in Great Britain were – and will continue to be used this week for the second tournament starting Wednesday at the Adamstal Golf Club in Ramsau. All Ramsau participants had to take the Covid 19 test again on Sunday.
Repetition is quite possible
Eriksson emphasized the perfect preparation in Atzenbrugg despite the short time. “It was noticed that the European tour had been a guest here many times,” said the Swede.
According to Ali Al Khaffaf, the organizer of the tournament in Atzenbrugg, the European Tour will continue to be a guest in the Tullnerfeld. “The tour saw that we are a reliable partner and we are striving to talk about the next year,” said the managing director of Golf Open Event GmbH. However, the plans are not yet concrete.
“The tour has to see which tournaments there are next year, what the calendar looks like. Many tournaments were canceled this year, sponsors are gone, ”said Khaffaf. The two successive tournaments in Austria had been well received, and in the future you could position yourself close to the competitions in Munich or Prague.
Of course, a potent sponsor would also have to be found for the Austrian Open. That was not successful for 2019, when the tournament was canceled. Khaffaf does not expect an early decision in 2021. “Now it is too early to say what will happen next year.”
