Insurance companies can make a lot of money with accident cars. The independent claims experts play a dubious role. They should try to get car owners to refrain from repairs.

The big property insurance companies in Switzerland are doing brilliantly. The so-called compensation is lower than it has been in years. In the area of auto liability insurance, it is 38 percent. The rate indicates what percentage of a premium franc collected flows back to the insured person. The lower the rate, the better it is for the insurance company.
Another reason for the good numbers is that insurance companies operate highly professional claims management. Some of them have a close-knit network of repair shops with whom they have negotiated advantageous conditions. Zurich-Versicherung, for example, operates 27 so-called helppoints across Switzerland – a concept originally developed by McKinsey to save costs.
