NAfter the expensive SEK breakdown in June, the Wuppertal public prosecutor’s office has brought charges against a gold dealer. The Wuppertal regional court announced this on Wednesday. The man is accused of tax evasion.
A special unit stormed his house in June and caused significant damage, even though the man was on an officially approved trip abroad. Thus warned, he did not return to Germany. It is therefore unclear whether there will be a trial.
Detonations, shots in the air and one injured person: The police operation is said to have caused 30,000 euros in damage. “My client is the wife of the accused and the owner of the house. She was injured by splinters and suffered shock,” lawyer Carsten Rebber in Wuppertal reported at the time.
The special unit used explosives to gain access to the house in four places at the same time. The house looked like that. The woman’s husband had previously cooperated with the authorities for two and a half years and fulfilled all requirements.
“This could all have been avoided if we had been smart,” Rebber had said. “Instead they come with explosives and this exaggerated Rambo act that the taxpayer now has to pay for.”
The NRW Interior Ministry has now admitted that the incident was due to an “office oversight”. The approved trip abroad was not recorded in the police computer, contrary to the order.
