GNR detains woman sick with Covid-19 in Lamego. Violated confinement and was in a store – Portugal

The National Republican Guard (GNR) detained a 79-year-old woman in Lamego, Viseu district, for violating the obligation of mandatory confinement, that security force announced this Thursday.

“The GNR Territorial Command of Viseu, through the Territorial Post of Lamego, detained, on November 11, a 79-year-old woman for breach of the obligation of mandatory confinement, in the locality of Lamego”, says Guarda, in a statement sent to the Lusa agency.

According to the press release, “the detainee, already referred to for failure to comply with mandatory confinement at home decreed by the Public Health Authority due to covid-19,” since she is a citizen infected by the new coronavirus.

The woman, the statement clarifies, “was intercepted when returning to her home, after having gone to a commercial establishment”. The return home was made “after all the security conditions had been met” and “accompanied by the military”.

GNR clarifies that the detainee, for having committed a crime of disobedience, was constituted accused, and the facts were referred to the Judicial Court of Lamego.

The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 1,294,539 deaths in more than 52.7 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.

In Portugal, 3,250 people died from 204,664 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
