Global smartphone sales decreased by one fifth

According to a study published on Monday by the US market research company Gartner, 20.5 percent fewer smartphones were sold than in the same period last year. The main reasons were the exit restrictions and the reluctance of consumers.

But the closure of Chinese factories in the Corona crisis is also cited as one of the reasons. According to the study, the market leader Samsung remained in the first quarter with an 18.5 percent share of smartphone sales. However, sales of the South Korean company with smartphones declined by more than 22 percent. The Chinese Huawei group remained in second place with a market share of 14.2 percent, according to Gartner, with a decline in sales of 27 percent.

Apple remained in third place with a market share of 13.7 percent. According to the study, the smartphone sales of the US company fell significantly less than that of its competitors, namely by only eight percent.
