Merdeka.com – Giving vaccines can be a way to prevent the emergence of certain diseases or health problems. This also includes dengue hemorrhagic fever or DHF in children.

Chairperson of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) Immunization Task Force Prof. Dr. dr. Hartono Gunardi, Sp.A(K) recommends giving vaccines to reduce the risk of children getting dengue fever, reducing the risk of hospitalization, and the possibility of severe dengue fever.

“Children have symptoms of dengue fever that are similar to adults. Therefore, giving dengue fever vaccination is a necessary part of comprehensive prevention of dengue fever,” he said. JakartaSunday.

Hartono, who is a Professor at the University of Indonesia (UI) in the field of pediatrics, added that currently the number of children who are affected or even die from dengue fever is still high.

In 2022, said Hartono, the number of cases due to dengue fever will be the second highest, affecting children aged five to 14 years. While the death rate reaches its peak there is this age range.

“This is of course our shared responsibility to try to reduce the incidence of dengue fever in Indonesia. It is important to include children aged 6 years and over to get immunized,” he explained.

Vaccination, said Hartono, helps the child’s immune system to form antibodies that function to fight the virus that causes dengue fever. Vaccination in children is one way to reduce Immunization Preventable Diseases (PD3I).

“Several things that can be done are keeping the environment clean through 3M plus, recognizing the danger signs of dengue fever infection and taking preventive measures as early as possible by avoiding mosquito bites,” he stated.
