– It may seem trite to say this now, after the months we have behind us, but you have to remember that the disease is among us. We must remember that there are still a lot of people who are vulnerable. Now people will travel more and move around the country. Then there is always a danger of bringing infection around. So it is important that young people and young adults take care, she says.
Most infected in the 20s
When the coronavirus first came to Norway, most people in their 50s were infected.
Now it is most people aged 20–29 who test positive for corona, shows numbers from Folkehelseinstituttet (FHI).
Deputy Health Director Espen Rostrup Nakstad said before the weekend that he was not surprised by the development of the infection. Many young people have mild symptoms. They can thus be in contact with other people while they are sick and infectious, he pointed out.
In a risk assessment earlier this month, he wrote FHI that they were worried about people getting bored of the infection prevention councils, and that summer should therefore lead to a flourishing of local mass infection.
– You can become infected and you can be infectious
The Prime Minister says it is important that people follow the infection control rules.
– I would like to urge people to keep in mind that we are still infected in society. You can become infected and you can be the one that is infectious to others, she says.
– You don’t know if people have underlying diseases. We must make sure that we create a society where even those at risk groups have an opportunity to be out in the summer weather, ”says Solberg.
This weekend, the nightclubs in Oslo were allowed to stay open until 3 o’clock, for the first time after the stringent corona measures were introduced.
The Oslo Business Council, Victoria Marie Evensen (Ap), then said that going back to ordinary business hours was a declaration of confidence for both the nightlife industry and the public.
When asked about the industry and the people in the city, the trust has proved worthy, Erna Solberg answers:
– Some have probably taken the summer heat a little too far. It was warm and nice this weekend. But most people behave properly. Those places that can’t keep up have to do something about it.
– Local authorities must enforce the regulations
Oslo City Council leader Raymond Johansen (Ap) has repeatedly stated that they will not hesitate to close night spots that do not follow the guidelines.
He also said that people must be conscious and “use the hat” even when they have had a few beers.
According to the prime minister, the government will not introduce stricter measures following the party chaos this weekend. She points out that it is the local authorities who are responsible.
– There is a breach of the law if organized nightclubs are unable to comply with the infection control rules. They may face fines and withdrawal of a pavement, and it is up to local authorities to enforce it, she says.
