GISS wants central government to immediately switch off Citrix software

Citrix is VPN software, which makes it possible for employees to log in from home to company systems, where a serious leak was found last month. Unplugging the power cord is currently the only certain form of protection, says the NCSC.

Vital organizations

Security service AIVD had insisted on this far-reaching advice, also for the so-called ‘vital organizations’ such as electricity companies and banks.

“It is up to the organizations themselves to consider the impact of the possible elimination of Citrix and the importance of continuity of primary processes,” said the Ministry of Justice and Security, which includes the NCSC.

Additional measures

Earlier in the day, dozens of municipalities announced that they had switched off the software.

If a company or institution estimates that the consequences of switching off Citrix are too great, then the NCSC recommends that additional safety measures be taken, which can, however, be very labor-intensive and the question is whether they offer 100% safety.
