This Saturday, Girona FC lost 1-0 on their visit to UD Las Palmas and wasted their momentum in the Champions League.
At the Gran Canaria Stadium, Álex Muñoz scored shortly before half-time. Viti Rozada crossed from the right wing, Fábio Silva combed the ball in his attempted shot and Muñoz hit a left footed shot that slipped between the legs of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, when Girona was a man down before switching to Alejandro Francés.
Míchel Sánchez’s pupils did not find the key in the second half, conceding more scoring opportunities and became desperate, including the expulsion of substitute goalkeeper Juan Carlos Martín for protesting. Alberto Moleiro even sent a free shot to the post in the 78th minute, into an empty goal, after a mistake by Gazzaniga and his defense when starting from behind.
This good harvest for Las Palmas, dressed in pink for an awareness campaign against breast cancer, helped them gain nine points and momentarily leave the relegation zone. Somewhat higher up, the Girona team remains with 12 points, but without having taken advantage of the positive momentum of its recent victory (2-0) against Slovan Bratislava on matchday 3 of the Champions League.
