BizarreTwo parents from Georgia, United States, have been charged with the death of their child. Their daughter Kaitlyn, 12, died of a heart attack that may have been caused by too many head lice, authorities say. They feed on human blood.
The 12-year-old girl from Ivey, Georgia, was declared dead in hospital on August 26. Her mother had called emergency services because she didn’t respond to anything anymore.Just under a month later, her parents, Mary Katherine Horton (37) and Joey Yozviak (38), were charged with ‘second degree murder’ – without premeditation – and child abuse.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent Ryan Hilton told the court that he had never seen such a bad infestation of lice as with the 12-year-old girl. According to him, the child had continuously suffered from lice for three years, which would have ‘sucked out’ the girl completely.
Those incessant lice bites would have lowered the iron levels in her blood. This severe anemia may have caused the girl to go into cardiac arrest. However, the autopsy report is not yet complete. The exact cause of death is still under investigation. But apparently there are already enough elements to charge the parents.
Kaitlyn’s mother confessed in court that her daughter had not been bathed for over a week when she died. When authorities examined the family’s home, they found lice all over the place.
Human blood
The head lice is a parasite. The bugs like to look for hairy and warm spots on the body and feed on human blood. A head lice lives for about one month and easily lays five to six eggs every day, from which new lice develop. Rapid action is therefore very important.
