Gijón will remember Díaz Negrete on World Architecture Day | BE Gijón

2020 it will be the year for two ephemeris important related to the architecture of Gijón. This year is the centenary of the birth of the architect Miguel Díaz Negrete just like him 60th anniversary of the inauguration of the One Thousand Five Hundred of Pumarín, one of his best known and recognized works.

For these two reasons, next October and coinciding with the International Day of Architecture (October 1) Jovellanos Birthplace will host the exhibition Miguel Díaz y Negrete: Architecture Archive, an exhibition that will be curated by the historian Héctor Blanco and that aims to review the professional milestones of this popular architect through his personal files.

The Municipal Foundation of Culture It started to to work with Díaz Negrete ten years ago, shortly before his death, to order an extraordinary legacy It contains the knowledge accumulated over 64 years in a collection of all kinds of documents: from plans, models and photographs even the telegram he sent to his parents to inform them that he had obtained the title. Since his death, the family took the witness so that the 4,000 files which guards the Casa Natal de Jovellanos museum serves the people of Gijón to fix the architectural memory that led to the transformation of Gijón in the second half of the 20th century. For a decade the museum has been digitizing and cataloging these materials in collaboration with his family. inside of the Program Artists Archive that the Jovellanos Birthplace takes place.
