Gijón has exceeded requirements demandeds by the Segittur methodology, which means obtaining the distinctive of Smart Tourist Destination. The city has passed the cut in all the variables analyzed: sustainability, technology, governance, innovation and accessibility. It is the conclusion of the diagnosis presented by Andrés Fernández Alcantud, Segittur project director; and Segittur technicians Beatriz García Moreno, Óscar Blanco Hortet and Delfín Jiménez Martín.
“A Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) is an innovative tourist destination, consolidated on a cutting-edge technological infrastructure, which guarantees the sustainable development of the tourist territory, which promotes accessibility for all, which facilitates visitor interaction and integration with the environment and increases the quality of their experience in the destination and improves the quality of life of residents “, explained Andrés Fernández, Segittur project technician.
On Gijón, Segittur’s project manager stressed that “it is a consolidated destination, which has been reinvented and transformed into a city of great tourist attraction in every sense: beaches, leisure, shopping, culture, gastronomy, sports, meetings and conferences “.
