Does Tesla have to postpone its start of production in its Gigafabrik Berlin? In view of a possible reinterpretation of documents, the start could actually be postponed by several months.
Gigafabrik Berlin: start of production in July in danger?
In July 2021, Tesla wanted to start production for its electric cars in its gigafactory in Berlin. From then on, 500,000 vehicles will roll off the production line in the factory in Grünheide annually. But this date is now possibly in jeopardy and could even be postponed by months.
That reports that Handelsblatt and refers to statements by Brandenburg’s Minister of Economic Affairs Jörg Steinbach from the economic committee of the Potsdam state parliament.
The start of production could be postponed by up to three months
The reason: documents may have to be redrawn. And that can take time.
“If it were to be the most complex form of interpretation, then we are at three months,” the quotes Handelsblatt Steinbach about it.
The State Office for the Environment (LfU) decides whether a new interpretation of the documents is necessary. This decision has not yet been made, a spokeswoman told the Handelsblatt.

One reason for a new design would be if Tesla had changed its construction project during the ongoing approval process in such a way that third parties would be adversely affected.
Tesla has indeed changed its rainwater infiltration plans. An expert opinion on malfunctions in the factory is also pending.
If the LfU then decides that the documents have to be interpreted again, this is a longer process because there are certain legal requirements for the duration of the interpretation. Citizens also have the chance to submit pretexts and in the end the LfU has to recheck all entries.
Steinbach said that a postponed start of production was acceptable to him. The top priority is a solid approval process.
Gigafabrik Berlin delayed: Tesla would not be pleased
Tesla, on the other hand, probably sees it differently. The company recently went through the lengthy approval process publicly criticized. The carmaker is unlikely to be happy if there is another delay.
