Giel Beelen was in Colombia with his girlfriend when things went wrong at an airport. He accidentally left his phone in the device, which was not found. “There is one person who has lost his job. I do feel guilty about that.”
Giel Beelen and his girlfriend Floor recently made a wonderful trip through Colombia. It was ‘insane’, says Giel in his radio show. But the journey also had a huge low point.
Leaving your phone on a plane
“There was one time when I was stupid enough at an airport to leave my phone on the plane. I wasn’t allowed to go back to pick him up,” explains Giel.
The phone was not found and Giel waited for hours at the airport. After about three hours of waiting, the couple finally decided to leave without a phone. ,,And then of course you have Find My iPhone. I think we were already an hour away from the airport and then I saw that he was online.”
‘I do feel guilty about that’
Giel then decided to return to the airport and went to the police there. Police checked where the phone was last online and started talking to each other in Spanish.
,,Fortunately, I had a driver who could translate a bit. They said: ‘He was found in a part where quite a few people work,” says Giel. ,,Long story short: they opened all those lockers of the people who work there. And I do feel guilty about that: there is one person who has really lost his job. But I had my phone back.”
