They know little about Giavanna’s biological parents. Only that her mother had HIV. Hardly anyone knows that Giavanna too has HIV. “If I tell my friends, I don’t know if they will broadcast it without my knowledge. Maybe I will be bullied or called names.” She has a girlfriend she knows from the HIV clinic, but there are more fun things to talk to her about than their illness. If someone happens to see her taking a pill at 6:00pm, she just says “medications,” without explaining exactly what for.
