Giants will wear the colors of pride on the field

The San Francisco Giants announced Tuesday that they will become the first major league team to feature pride colors in their uniforms on the field when they host the Chicago Cubs Saturday at Oracle Park.

In honor of the LGBTQ community (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) +, the Giants will celebrate Pride Day by wearing an “SF” logo pride patch on the right sleeve of their uniforms, as well as a custom cap that incorporates the pride colors into the logo. San Francisco manager Gabe Kapler said:

I am very proud that the San Francisco Giants are taking this step. I am very, very proud to be a part of this, and I look forward to the impact and support that we receive can help the LGBTQ + community. “

The special uniforms are part of the SF Pride Day presented by Peet’s Coffee at Oracle Park. Fans can purchase special event tickets for Saturday’s game that include a limited-edition “SF Pride” jersey. The partial proceeds from each of those special event tickets will be donated to San Francisco Pride. Giants CEO Larry Baer said in a statement issued by the team:

“We are very proud to support the LGBTQ + community as we kick off one of the best annual celebrations in San Francisco honoring the countless accomplishments and contributions of all those who identify as LGBTQ + and are allies of the LGBTQ + community.”
