Giant white shark found in Canada, nicknamed “Queen of the Ocean” because of its size

NOVA SCOTIA, KOMPAS.com – Researchers working in the waters of Nova Scotia, Canada, have found White shark large sized giant weighing 1.6 tonnes with a length of 5.18 meters.

Researchers from NGOs named OCEARCH and then dubbed the female shark as ” Queen of the Ocean“And was given the name Nukumi.

OCEARCH is an ocean data collection organization that has tagged and collected samples from hundreds of sharks, dolphins, seals and other animals. CNN, Monday (5/10/2020).

“We named it ‘Nukumi’, for the figure of the legendary old sage of the Native American tribe Mi’kmaq,” wrote OCEARCH in a Facebook post, Saturday (3/10/2020).

According to the post, the Mi’kmaq culture has deep roots in Nova Scotia, Canada.

“With the new data we have collected, this (shark) will share its # knowledge with us for years to come,” wrote OCEARCH.

The nukumi is the largest of the eight great white sharks that researchers have sampled during the current expedition.

As of Monday, the expedition by OCEARCH had been going on for 27 days.

OCEARCH also posted a video showing Nukumi lying on a special submarine platform built on the side of the research ship with researchers around him.

After that Nukumi then swam away.

The OCEARCH uses the data they have collected to study migration patterns and uncover previously unknown details about shark life.

In October 2019, OCEARCH caught and tagged a male shark which they named Ironbound off Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

In late December 2019, tracers showed a 3.6 meter long shark had traveled 2,370 kilometers on the US East Coast to Key Biscayne, near Miami, USA.
