There is probably no bowl in which a cucumber made of cucumber grown by Piotr Holewa on the plot in the Family Allotment Gardens Powstańców Śląskich in Racibórz. It is a real giant! The cucumber already measures 78 centimeters and is still growing!
– There is still 3 centimeters to break the Polish record – says Piotr Holewa. The garden plotter is racing with himself a bit (at least in the cucumber category) because the previous record also belongs to his cucumber.
In 2017, the cucumber grown in Racibórz reached a length of 80 cm and 8 millimeters, and was recognized as the official Polish record.

But not only the longest cucumbers grow on Piotr Holewa’s plot. Squashes will also compete, although you never know with them. – Unfortunately one broke and I had to pick it on Sunday, because it won’t grow any more – says Holewa. The squash has recently had a strong back and has reached a weight of 55 kilograms! Its circumference – measured alongside – is 2.5 meters!

– My heart is broken, because he was going for the record, but I will not take the cracked squash for the competition – says Holewa.

Don’t overlook it
The passionate has not yet hung a white flag. He hopes to breed another large squash for the pumpkin competition, which is scheduled for October 4.
This year, on his plot, you can also admire huge garlic, weighing – attention – over half a kilo!
The largest is 540 grams. – This is what is called elephant garlic. I once got seeds from a gardeners who brought them from Georgia – explains Piotr Holewa.
