MONT TREMBLANT – Valérie Grenier delivered a thrilling performance on home snow, securing a podium finish at the World Cup giant slalom in mont-Tremblant, Quebec.The Franco-Ontarian skier finished third,just behind New Zealander Alice Robinson (2min 16’18”) and Croatian Zrinka Ljutic,by a second and six hundredths respectively.
Grenier, a native of St-Isidore, Ontario, has been steadily regaining form after an injury that ended her 2024 season in January. She previously achieved World Cup victories, including being a double World Cup giant slalom champion. This marks her fifth World Cup podium and fourth in giant slalom.
“It’s crazy, I can’t believe it. I have no words. I wanted this to happen so badly, but I didn’t want to think about it to much. It’s incredible. I am extremely happy,proud of myself and of our team,” Grenier stated to CBC Sports,adding that her strong first run boosted her confidence for the second.
She initially placed fifth in the first heat, 74 hundredths of a second behind Robinson, who led from start to finish. Grenier’s result surpasses her previous best finish in Mont-Tremblant, a sixth-place showing in 2023.
Fellow Canadian skiers Britt Richardson finished 15th,and Cassidy Gray placed 27th. The competition continues tomorrow wiht a second giant slalom race.
