Giant Object Puzzle at the Center of the Milky Way Galaxy

Jakarta

Scientists in general believe that there are black hole super massive that is in the center or center of the Galaxy Bima Sakti. However, it is still not 100% absolute and in recent research, it is indicated that the object may not be a black hole.

Sagittarius A, as the object in the center of the Milky Way is called, has an estimated mass of 4 million suns. It has always been assumed to be a black hole due to the movement of stars around it.

In 2014, that assumption wavered as a gas cloud known as G2 approached the object. Scientists predict, the cloud in question will be destroyed by the great gravitational force of Sagittarius A. However, it does not happen, G2 survives without problems.

As quoted detikINET from the Independent, there are scientists who currently believe in another theory, that Sagittarius A at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy is actually not a black hole but dark matter.

Dark matter is the material that science estimates, covers 80% of the universe. However, it is very difficult to detect because this dark matter does not interact with light.

In his research, researchers at the International Center for Relativistic Astrophysics (ICRA) conducted simulations where the black hole at the center of the galaxy Bima Sakti replaced by dark matter, specifically darkino which is dense in the center but more ‘spread’ at the edges.

It was concluded that with this simulation, G2’s gas cloud could survive at the edge of dark matter, as well as nearby stars, without being damaged by black holes because the object was actually dark matter. However, the hypothesis that the center of the Galaxy Bima Sakti is that black holes can’t be completely eliminated by this theory either.
