The GGD Groningen is preparing a plan for the return of more than nine hundred students from corps Vindicat who are currently skiing in northern Italy. The group decided on Sunday to go on holiday, despite the rapid spread of the corona virus in Italy.
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tightened the recommendation for travel to northern Italy. Unnecessary trips to the area were discouraged to prevent additional coronavirus infections in the Netherlands. The orange color code applies to the Piedmont region, where the students are.
Rector Floris Hamann left it at Tuesday Newspaper of the North know “to be aware of the serious situation”, but not to see any reason for a premature return of the students.
“We have daily contact with Vindicat in Sestriere”, the GGD Groningen says. “The return of such a large group from a coronary risk area raises many questions.”
RTL News reports that the GGD Groningen expressed concern about the trip before the students left. The Groningen health service was not available on Wednesday evening for questions.
