‘GGD Rotterdam also has contact research partly carried out by a corona patient’ | NOW

The GGD in Rotterdam must, just like in Amsterdam, limit the source and contact research, reports the WE Friday. In both cities, due to the increasing number of infections, there are not enough employees available to carry out all investigations. It was therefore decided that infected persons should provisionally warn their contacts.

The GGDs can carry out more source and contact investigations by releasing part of the investigation. This alternative working method has been developed in consultation with the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).

Many new infections are being detected in the Amsterdam and Rotterdam regions, which has increased the workload among the employees of the GGDs. They also have to call more and more people in the source and contact research. Sometimes infected persons report more than fifty contacts.

That is why the research is being organized “more efficiently and more risk-driven”, reports GGD Amsterdam. After someone tests positive for the coronavirus, an “intensive source and contact investigation” with this person follows. The corona patient then warns his contacts with the help of a special instruction.

The two GGDs will focus on risk groups and risk situations. “All positives will of course be called, but only a shorter and less extensive conversation will be conducted,” a spokesman for GGD Amsterdam told the WE.
