The outbreak of the corona virus in nursing home De Tweemaster in Maassluis in June and July probably took place via an infected resident and / or employees. That writes the GGD Rotterdam-Rijnmond.

Particles of the virus have also been found in the ventilation system of the nursing home, a report from the RIVM that was in the hands of EenVandaag showed last week. But, according to the GGD, this “does not seem the most likely contamination route.”
“There were complaints from employees who were not recognized as COVID-19, so that the outbreak was found later than desired,” writes the Health Service. “Residents with complaints may have infected each other. Employees wore mouth-nose masks, but had lunch together and possibly infected each other because keeping their distance was not always possible. Because the virus mainly spreads via large droplets, these are more likely routes of distribution.”
The corona virus hit hard at the De Tweemaster nursing home at the end of June. Seventeen residents and eighteen employees were infected, six residents did not survive.
The GGD, in collaboration with Argos Zorggroep, Franciscus Gasthuis and Vlietland, Erasmus MC, RIVM and an independent research agency, investigated the outbreak of the corona virus in De Tweemaster. The full report will not be published until later, but the GGD now wants to share the conclusion ‘given the much recent attention and unrest about the investigation.’
