Getting to know Carlo Acutis, Patron Saint of the Internet

ASSISI, KOMPAS.com – Name Acute Carlo became a conversation after on Saturday (10/10/2020), he received beatification and was given the title Blessed (The Blessed One).

One-level process of becoming Santo (The Saint) was carried out in Assisi, where he was buried when he died in 2006.

The beatification process was carried out by Cardinal Agostino Vallini, who read out a decree from Pope Francis, where the party will be celebrated on October 12th.

Carlo was buried in Assisi on October 12, 2006 because of his love for Saint Francis of Assisi, after suffering from leukemia.

He became the youngest figure to receive the title Blessed, in which he is also called ” Patron Saint of the Internet“, the nickname that also bears the 7th century academy, Isidore de Seville.

1. Since elementary school, I have studied coding

Little Carlo was born in London, England, on May 3, 1991 to Acutis-Salzano from Italy. They then moved to Milan when he was a child.

The mother told Corriere della Sera revealed, at the age of three he always asked to visit the church whenever they stopped in Milan.

Then at the age of seven, he already received First Communion, although according to the Lateran Council in 1215, children who can receive it at the age of 12-14 years.

The mother said that so far, she only attended mass when she received her first communion, the Sacrament of Confirmation, until she got married.

On the other hand, after receiving the first communion, Carlo always prepared a moment of silence before and after mass and liked to pray the rosary.

When he was in elementary school, he studied coding from computer science books to college students, and self-taught video editing and animation.

2. Blessings via the internet

He got the unofficial title as The patron saint of the internet, because during his lifetime, he made a number of useful programs for Catholics.

Among them are catalogs for those who have experienced miracles and include several sites belonging to local Catholic organizations.

In the homily (sermon), Cardinal Vallini said the teenager saw the virtual world as a place to be responsible, not enslaved.

“Carlo uses the internet to do his ministry, and reach out to as many people as possible,” said Cardinal Vallini at the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.

On the Eucharistic miracle site he built, he stated “the more often we do the Eucharist, the more we will become like Jesus, so that on Earth we will experience Heaven.”

3. Fall ill, offer suffering to God and the Church

As a teenager, Carlo Acutis was diagnosed with leukemia. At that time, he stated that he dedicated his suffering to God and the church.

“I offer all the suffering I have to suffer for God, the Pope (Benedict XVI), and the Church,” he said at the time.

During his lifetime, the priest who promoted his status as a saint said that Carlo managed to bring his family and parents to mass.

This was confirmed by the mother. Antonia said that because of her child’s curiosity, she always read the Bible which made her faith grow again.

“Carlo saved me, because basically I am a person who lacks strong faith,” explained Antonia to local Italian media.

Antonia reveals she returned thanks to Father Illo Carrai, Padre Pio of Bologna. “I hope to get purgatory,” he said.

4. The process of becoming Blessed

On 12 October 2006 at the age of 15, he was buried in Assisi, a city in the Umbria Region at his own request.

Carlo admits that he is a fan of Saint Francis of Assisi who dedicates his life to the poor, apart from that the city is his favorite destination.

His path to becoming a saint begins when Pope Francis accepts a miracle that happens to someone because of Charles.

Namely a 7-year-old boy from Brazil whose pancreatic pain healed after touching one of Carlo’s relics, namely his shirt.

It took at least one more miracle recorded and verified by the Church before Carlo Acutis received the title of Saint.
