Experienced Spanish coach Rafael Benítez expressed his dissatisfaction with the course of his Ta-lien Pro team’s match in the Chinese league in an unusual way.
Former Liverpool or Real Madrid coach spent the final tens of seconds of Tuesday’s duel against Jiangsu Su-ning 1: 2 demonstratively reversed back to the field.
“I didn’t like the match at all,” Benitez explained his gesture at a subsequent press conference, which he ended after about two minutes.
His charges, including the Slovak national midfielder Marek Hamšík, have only scored a point in the three league matches so far.
Sixty-year-old Benitez has been training Ta-lien since last July. In recent weeks, there has been speculation about his dissatisfaction with China’s engagement and a likely return to the Premier League, where he last led Newcastle in 2016-19.
Benítez, a native of Madrid, has had a long history of success. With Liverpool winning the Champions League in 2005, he led Valencia to two Spanish titles and a triumph in the UEFA Cup.
The successor to this competition once again dominated the European League with Chelsea in 2013. He also trained at Inter Milan, Real or Naples, where he also met Hamšík.
