One of the diplomats in the EU said that Germany refused to consider cutting Russia off from SWIFT.
As part of the discussion of new sanctions against the Russian Federation, Germany withdrew from consideration the issue of disconnecting Russia from SWIFT, reports Euractiv.
It is noted that attention was focused on the energy sector.
“While gas and oil are seen as possible leverage, one EU diplomat said the opposition, led by Germany, appears to have withdrawn from discussion a proposal to separate Moscow from the global payment system SWIFT,” the report says.
