Germany will not oppose Poland sending Leopard 2 tanks to kyiv, foreign minister says

The German Foreign Minister says that if Poland asked for permission to send German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, Berlin “would not object.”

Annalena Baerbock he made this comment in an interview with French television network LCI, in what appeared to be a first clear sign.

Warsaw has been waiting for the green light from Berlin to provide its armored vehicles to kyiv. However, the Polish prime minister does not want to delay helping him:

“We will not stand idly by while Ukraine bleeds to death. If we do not get the German deal on the Leopards, we will build a ‘smaller coalition’ of countries willing to donate some of their modern tanks to a struggling Ukraine.”the prime minister said in a tweet.

In his evening speech, the Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenskystated that “the main focus of the war is the question of defense.”

He mentioned that “this week will be the time to make the right decisions” and that “solutions have already been prepared,” which, according to him, “will be fair.”

Zelensky also referred to the visit of the former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday, stating that the trip was symbolic as it took place on Ukrainian Unity Day, which came days after Johnson received the honorary medal of “citizen of kyiv”.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry claims that its offensive operations have also “seized more advantageous lines and positions” in the regions of Jerson and Zaporiyia.

And on Friday he claimed to have captured the village of Klishchiivkaonly nine kilometers from Bajmutin eastern Ukraine.

However, the Ukrainians have not made any official comment on the matter, but they have confirmed that the Russian forces are on the brink of Bakhmut. It seems that pressure is mounting for heavy tanks to be delivered soon.
