Germany is relaxing rules for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, but less fireworks

The German government and the sixteen states will relax the corona measures during the holidays. In December, the Germans must first count on an extension and possibly strengthening of the current corona measures. This should further reduce the number of new infections, so that no infection explosion occurs during the holidays, it has been decided at a consultation between the federal states with Chancellor Merkel.

Currently, a maximum of five people from two households are allowed to come together and from 23 December to 1 January this will be extended to ten people in the immediate family or circle of friends, excluding children up to the age of 14.

Fireworks ban on squares

During the turn of the year there will be less fireworks in Germany, because this year to prevent groups forming, it is prohibited to gather in squares and streets to set off fireworks. All major fireworks shows have been canceled due to corona anyway.

Furthermore, the authorities are calling on the population not to light any fireworks at all this year, in order not to further burden the hospitals during this corona time. No sales ban has been announced for fireworks.

End of decline

Today, the number of new infections in Germany increased significantly by around 5,000. This put an end to a three-day decline in the number of corona cases. The number of deaths from corona also increased rapidly by 410 in the past 24 hours. In Germany, a total of 14,771 people have died from covid-19.
