Germany restricts entry from Britain due to Omicron

Germany is tightening travel restrictions from the UK in an effort to contain the spread of the Omicron strain.

Germany has recognized the UK as a zone of spread of coronavirus mutations and will temporarily restrict the entry into its territory of travelers from this country. About this on Saturday, December 18, reported the Robert Koch Institute under the Ministry of Health of the Federal Republic of Germany on the website.

The Institute has classified the UK, along with Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands, in the list of coronavirus variants.

By introducing restrictions, the FRG authorities expect to curb the spread of the Omicron strain on their territory.

In this way, airlines are prohibited from transporting tourists from Britain to Germany starting at midnight, December 20.

Only German citizens and residents, their partners and children, as well as transit passengers will be allowed to travel to the country from the UK.

Anyone entering Germany from the UK will need a negative PCR test and the person entering is required to be quarantined for 14 days, regardless of vaccination status.

In the message of the Ministry of Health of Germany, it is noted that the restrictions may last at least until January 3. This comes amid concerns about the rapid spread of the Omicron strain in the UK.

In addition to Great Britain, Botswana, Eswaniti, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa are listed as zones of distribution of COVID-19 mutations by the German institute.

Recall in the Netherlands from December 19 a new lockdown will begin.
