MICHELE SO MUCH

BERLIN (Reuters) – The Greens, who on Wednesday reached a coalition agreement in Germany with the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Liberal Democratic Party (FDP), announced on Thursday that they had appointed their co-chair Annalena Baerbock for the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs in the future government.

Beginning a consultation process with party members intended to ratify the coalition agreement, the Greens also confirmed that they would nominate Robert Habeck for the post of Deputy Chancellor and Minister of the Economy, with responsibilities in climate policy.

If Annalena Baerbock’s appointment becomes effective, she will be the first woman in the country’s history to head the Foreign Office.

The consultation process of some 125,000 members of the Greens must end at the beginning of December, that is to say when the results of internal votes in the SPD and FDP are also expected.
