In Germany, people have started hoarding toilet paper, soap and disinfectants again, the Statistiek Bundesamt, the German statistical office, reports Thursday. Toilet paper sales last week were 89.9 percent above pre-corona levels.
Disinfectants were sold 72.5 percent more and soap was sold 62.3 percent more. “Consumers are starting to hoard again,” the statistics office said Twitter.
According to a spokesperson for Albert Heijn, there is currently no hoarding behavior in the Netherlands.
Germany, like the Netherlands, is currently facing a second wave. Until now, Germany has had more success in containing the coronavirus than other European countries, but last week saw an increase in the number of infections.
