German television will start broadcasting new works by Mr. Tau in the autumn

The original creators of the series, director Jindřich Polák, screenwriter Ota Hofman and the lead actor Otto Šimánek, are no longer alive. The German production company Caligari secured the rights to shoot other parts a few years ago.

The fourteen-part series was shot in Germany, in English and with British and German actors, ARD informed today. The main character of a smiling gentleman with a magic bowler hat was played by the English stand-up comedian Matt Edwards.

Between 1970 and 1978, a Czechoslovak-West German co-production produced 33 episodes of the television series Pan Tau, in which the main character was able to shrink many times over. A smiling guy in a suit and with an inseparable magic bowler hat, who did not speak in the first two of the three series and communicated with the world through pantomime and dance, won children’s hearts with magical pieces.

The stories of Mr. Tau were also published in books and were also processed into the films Alarm in the Clouds, I Don’t Enchant Tomorrow and Mr. Tau. In addition to Otto Šimánek, other legends of Czech film also appeared in the series – Vladimír Menšík, Jiří Sovák, Jiřina Bohdalová, Slávka Budínová, František Filipovský and many others.
