A look at the numbers shows that it is becoming increasingly difficult for Ticino to treat the severe corona patients. Currently, 2050 people from Ticino are infected with the corona virus. Around one in ten hospitalized Covid-19 patients is dependent on intensive care. However, only 103 intensive care beds are available to the doctors. For comparison: the canton of Zurich has 1874 infected people and has 366 beds with ventilators. Ticino needs support, otherwise there will be a debacle.
The canton of Zurich has recognized this – and is now rushing to help Ticino. Two Ticino patients have been at the Zurich University Hospital since the weekend. Marcel Odermatt, spokesman for the Zurich Health Directorate, confirmed to BLICK that a corona patient from Graubünden and two corona infected people from Alsace in France would also be taken over in the coming days. However, the Zurich population would not have to worry about insufficient capacity. Spokesman Odermatt says: “As long as we have free beds in the canton of Zurich, the necessary personnel and material, it goes without saying that we offer a hand to support.”

But not only the canton of Zurich shows solidarity with the congested Ticino and the border regions. Since the weekend, two Alsatians and a Ticino Covid-19 patient have been in intensive care in Aargau. The Thurgau has taken in two patients from Alsace and according to BLICK information, two Corona patients from Alsace have also been lying in the Inselspital in Bern since Tuesday night. “They were flown in by helicopter,” confirms the Bern health department. And: “We still have four free places for Swiss patients from other cantons.”
