German rail strike: timetable for Bremen and Lower Saxony

Train travelers have had to show patience since Wednesday. Three quarters of the connections are suspended until Friday. The GDL dispute also affects Lower Saxony and Bremen.

Frankfurt – From Tuesday evening, long-distance and regional transport of Deutsche Bahn will be severely restricted nationwide. The reason for this is a labor strike that the German Train Drivers Union (GDL) called after a ballot among its members. The threat of a strike by the GDL union is now a reality and DB passengers – commuters and vacationers – are affected.

In freight traffic already from Tuesday. In long-distance and regional transport, strikes can be expected from Wednesday. The duration of the restrictions should apply from 2 a.m. for at least 48 hours, and Deutsche Bahn does not expect the rail traffic to flow again until Friday.

Strike at Deutsche Bahn: industrial action by the GDL engine drivers causes 75 percent of all trains to fail

The weekend should not be affected, according to the GDL. Deutsche Bahn removed 75 percent of all long-distance trains from the timetable for the strike days. Routes with special priority are excluded.

According to Deutsche Bahn, this includes particularly heavily used connections between Berlin and the Rhine-Ruhr area, between Hamburg and Frankfurt, as well as connections to important train stations and airports. Kreiszeitung.de has an overview of the most important things for rail travel in the coming days.

Strike at Deutsche Bahn: timetable for Lower Saxony – tickets valid longer or money back

The goal is a two-hour offer with particularly long trains on the main axes, announced the state company. Some S-Bahn trains will also be affected by the strike. Tickets for the period should therefore be valid for a longer period or be reimbursed.

Restrictions are also to be expected in regional traffic. A hub in the north is also particularly affected. The rail strike paralyzes the train traffic in Hanover.

GDL train drivers of Deutsche Bahn strike: Rail traffic in Lower Saxony and Bremen severely restricted

Lower Saxony and Bremen’s rail traffic is also extremely restricted over the two days of the strike. A replacement timetable is available on the Deutsche Bahn website. It goes on to say: “Nevertheless, in this situation we cannot guarantee that all travelers will reach their destination”. The rail traffic between Bremen and Hamburg is not affected, since the metronome railway company runs there.

However, if the employees at the DB interlockings, the DB control centers, train stations and other infrastructure facilities (rails, overhead lines, signals, etc.) take part in the strike, this can also affect the journeys of the metronom, enno and erixx . Passengers should therefore obtain the latest information from the electronic timetable information, for example on the website or via the app.

GDL: Strike as a last resort in the collective bargaining dispute and

According to GDL chairman Claus Weselsky, the strike is the last option in the ongoing collective bargaining dispute. Against the criticism of the strike plan on the part of the railways or passengers, the chairman blocked: “There is no right time for a strike on the railroad. Please contact DB management, ”replied Weselsky when asked. “Corona or the flood have nothing to do with this collective bargaining conflict.”

A total of 95 percent of all GDL members present had voted for a labor dispute. At least 75 percent were required for this. One does not want to accept a so-called zero round in the current year in the deadlocked collective bargaining. The GDL is demanding a corona premium of 600 euros and a total increase in income of 3.2 percent within 28 months.

Deutsche Bahn: DB strike by GDL train drivers equates to “escalation at an inopportune time”

On the part of the railways, the strike is dubbed an “escalation at an inopportune time”. “Especially now, when people are traveling more and using the train again, the GDL top will destroy the upswing that we urgently need in view of the massive corona damage,” said Head of Human Resources Martin Seiler.

Seller criticized the fact that the GDL had not kept its announcement to give customers sufficient lead time before the start of the strike. The passenger association Pro Bahn also described the announcement of the strike as “clearly too short-term”.

Strike is the last option in the wage dispute with Deutsche Bahn, says Claus Weselsky, chairman of the German train drivers’ union (GDL).

GDL boss Weselsky declared: “We are waging a wage dispute over time and money”. In the background is the complex power struggle with the much larger railway and transport union (EVG). Last autumn, there was already a collective bargaining agreement with the railways.

No tariff increases are planned for 2021, from 2022 there will be 1.5 percent more money. Operational dismissals are excluded. Should the GDL get away with their demands, however, there would probably be renegotiations between the railway and EVG. * Kreiszeitung.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
