[ベルリン 2日 ロイター] – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on China on Monday to stop supplying Russia with weapons as it continues to invade Ukraine and instead pressure China to withdraw its troops.

In his speech to Congress, he said he regretted China’s refraining from condemning the Russian aggression while applauding its efforts toward nuclear disarmament.

“The message to the Chinese government is clear: do not use your influence to persuade Russia to withdraw its troops and hand over any weapons to the aggressor Russia,” he said.

International responses, such as China and India not blaming Russia for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, have highlighted the division in the world.

Multiple sources told Reuters this week that the United States is approaching close allies about possible new sanctions against China if China provides military aid to Russia.

These moves are still in the preliminary stage, but coordination of support centering on the G7 countries is being considered.
