overloaded Truck Stopped on German Autobahn
Herborn, Germany - Police conducting routine checks on the A45 highway near Herborn late Wednesday night discovered a truck carrying an illegally and dangerously overloaded cargo. A driver was found transporting three complete trucks - two full tractor-trailer units and a third truck loaded onto a trailer – without the necessary permits and exceeding legal height restrictions.Officers from the Lahn-Dill regional traffic service noticed irregularities with the trailer around 10:00 PM and pulled the vehicle over for inspection. The inspection revealed the unusual cargo: three trucks stacked on a single trailer, even after their wheels had been removed. Despite this modification, the overall height of the load measured 4.50 meters, exceeding the maximum permitted height of 4 meters.
The driver was unable to provide documentation exempting the load from weight or size regulations, nor did he possess the required permit for professional goods transport. The truck’s journey, originating in Düsseldorf and destined for Jordan, was halted in herborn.
Authorities resolute the load was unsafe to continue traveling, citing both the excessive height and inadequate load securing.
The transport company responsible faces substantial fines totaling over €16,500 – more than €15,000 related to illegal profit gained from the transport and an additional €1,500 for operating without the proper transport permit.
The incident occurred during a broader enforcement effort that saw ten trucks inspected that night. Police also identified other violations, including speeding, insufficient cargo securing, and a vehicle with dangerously worn brake discs, which was also taken off the road.
